How this hydration calculator works

The "8 glasses a day" rule has no real scientific basis. Your actual hydration needs depend on your body weight, how much you move, and the climate you live in. This calculator uses the formula sports dietitians recommend:

  • Base: Half your body weight in ounces.
  • Exercise: +12 oz for every 30 minutes of activity.
  • Climate: +20 oz when it's hot or humid.
