How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell or kettlebell vertically against your chest with both hands cupped under the top.
  2. Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width, toes turned out 15°.
  3. Brace your core, then sit hips down and back like into a low chair.
  4. Lower until elbows brush the inside of your knees or thighs are parallel to the floor.
  5. Drive through your whole foot to stand back up, squeezing glutes at the top.

  • Chest tall, weight in mid-foot
  • Knees track over toes
  • Belly braced like taking a punch

Common mistakes

  • Heels lifting
  • Knees caving inward
  • Losing brace at the bottom
